ST-Ericsson was established in February 2009 as a 50-50 joint venture between STMicroelectronics and Ericsson. Employing about 8000 people – the new global leader in wireless technologies is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. ST-Ericsson aimed to provide cutting-edge semiconductor solutions for mobile devices, including smartphones, tablets, and other connected devices.The company developed and supplied a range of products, including application processors, modem solutions, and other integrated circuits to enable advanced mobile communication features. In August 2013, ST-Ericsson announced plans to cease its operations and wind down the business.The dissolution of ST-Ericsson marked the end of the joint venture, with each parent company taking back certain assets and technology.
