Qimonda AG was a prominent semiconductor company that specialized in dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) products, including DRAM, graphics RAM, mobile RAM, and FLASH memory. Founded in 2006 as a spin-off from Infineon Technologies, Qimonda became the second-largest manufacturer of DRAM for various electronic devices, such as computers, servers, and consumer electronics. Headquartered in Munich, Germany, Qimonda operated manufacturing facilities in multiple locations worldwide. The company employed approximately 13,500 personnel globally, with nearly 2,000 in research and development (R&D). Utilizing advanced manufacturing and process technologies, Qimonda boasted 4 fabrication plants (fabs) and 6 major R&D facilities, positioning itself at the forefront of advanced memory design. In 2008, Qimonda eventually faced bankruptcy. Infineon acquired Qimonda's assets in 2014. In 2015, Polaris Innovations Ltd.,a wholly-owned subsidiary of WiLAN (NASDAQ: WILN), acquired the vast majority of Qimonda's patent portfolio from Infineon Technologies.
