Formally organized in 1966, IBM Microelectronics is a division of IBM (International Business Machines Corporation) that specializes in the development and manufacturing of microelectronic components and technologies. IBM Microelectronics Division is a leading-edge producer of semiconductor and packaged solutions for the networked world supplying a wide range of customers in such market segments as application-specific components, embedded controllers, wireless, microprocessors, memory, and storage. We manufacture semiconductor chips for other companies based on our designs, enabling these companies to leverage IBM's advanced manufacturing capabilities. We and our critical suppliers have between 10 and 15 manufacturing facilities in North America, Europe, and the Far East. In 2015, IBM Microelectronics was acquired by GlobalFoundries, Inc.
