Fairchild Semiconductor (NASDAQ: FCS) was a pioneering American semiconductor manufacturing company. Fairchild produced a wide range of semiconductor components, including transistors, diodes, integrated circuits, and other semiconductor products. These components were used in various electronic applications, from consumer electronics to industrial and aerospace systems. Fairchild was at the forefront of semiconductor technology innovation. Fairchild produced the first planar transistor. This technology helped make transistors smaller, more reliable, and more cost-effective. In 1960, Fairchild introduced the first commercial IC, which combined multiple transistors and other components on a single silicon chip. This breakthrough laid the foundation for modern microelectronics. Fairchild Semiconductor was founded in 1957 in Palo Alto, California. In 2016, ON Semiconductor (NASDAQ: ON) acquired Fairchild Semiconductor.
